Cars in Germany's Town Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
